I have traveled and lived in a lot of countries during my life. Every one have taught me something that have contributed to expand my lifestyle, to make it more rich, more exciting. But in fact, in all the places I have lived in, one day, I felt my time was over. This means that I felt that I had learned what I had to learn and I had to move on.

That is the way I arrived in Japan in 1987 after 3 year in the Azores and 2 years in Bangkok (Thailand). When I reached Narita for the first time, I had no idea about what I was looking for and I did not imagine I would spend more than 20 years here, which is my longest time in the same place ever…

Why did I stay so long? Because Japan have helped me to expand a lot the way I live my life. I did not get those insights from zero, there was already things within me which found a confirmation and an expansion through the essence of the traditions of Japan.

Some Japanese people says that I know more about Japanese traditions than a lot of Japanese people… I smile, because I do not think it is true. I am not born Japanese so this culture is not part of my DNA… But, for me, this is somehow positive, because by learning as an outsider I am able to find something universal, an essence deeply human beyond all idea of country or national identity.

During my stay here I have been curious enough and lucky enough to find great masters and I have learned a lot from them. They are not the kind of famous masters you find by searching trough Google, they look like normal people but they all generously shared with me their treasures.

Those treasures are the only treasures I can take with me wherever I go, they are treasures nobody can take away from me except myself, they are made of practical lessons about living fully a rewarding life.

In the seminar I will give at Brisa Libreria in Aoyama on the 14th of February 2015, I will share this story about the experiences I had, about the “masters” I met and what I have learned during those 24 years I have spent in Japan. It is not only about my personal experience; all those lessons are not limited to my life. I feel that they can inspire anybody. I am sure anyone can learn from the lessons I have learned. That’s the reason why I have chosen to share this experience with you.
